The Balch Lake Improvement Association, also commonly referred to as the Balch Lake Improvement Committee (BLIMP), is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the health and welfare of Balch Lake. The lake itself sits on the border of New Hampshire and Maine, spanning the towns of Wakefield, NH, and Acton and Newfield, ME.
The association's roots trace back to 1999 when local residents discovered variable milfoil in the river near Stump Pond and Carlson's point. By 2003, BLIMP was officially established as a non-profit to coordinate a large-scale, ongoing response to the invasive plant.
Below are some of the special moments captured throughout the years.
